What we did
Attic insulation replacement: the old pink batts out and fresh cellulose blown across the attic floor.
Before and after
Real photos from this job, shown whole. Before: old pink batts lying flattened and uneven between the posts. After: the same posts and gable end, with fresh cellulose in an even layer across the floor. The after photo was lit by a flashlight, which makes the gray cellulose look lighter than it is.

Why the old batts come out first
When old batts are flattened, uneven or dirty, the usual fix is to take them out rather than cover them. We haul the old layer away, and it is listed as its own line on the written quote. Then cellulose is blown straight onto the attic floor in an even layer, to the depth that gives the chosen R-value.
What to check in your own attic
Look from the attic hatch with a flashlight. Batts that are flattened, have gaps between them, or show stains or droppings are worth a closer look. Clean, dry insulation can sometimes stay. We check at the free inspection and tell you which.
