Foam is soft, so we never use it to keep rodents out. Every entry opening we find is closed with galvanized steel mesh, putty and concrete.
The CDC notes a mouse can fit through a hole the width of a pencil, about 1/4 inch. So we seal the small gaps too, inside and outside the house.

Short summaries of real AttiCali jobs: the city and the work we finished.

Before and after. Real photos from this San Jose job, shown whole: the attic before, then the same trusses after the new cellulose went in.
Finished job in San Jose
Attic insulation replacement and rodent proofing: the torn old batts out, the entry openings sealed, and fresh cellulose blown across the attic floor.
Rodent proofing and new insulation work best on the same visit. The old, torn batts come out, the ways in are sealed with galvanized steel mesh, putty and concrete, and then the fresh cellulose goes in, so rodents can’t move into the new layer. One inspection, one written quote.

Before and after. Real photos from this job, shown whole. Before: old pink batts lying flattened and uneven between the posts. After: the same posts and gable end, with fresh cellulose in an even layer across the floor. The after photo was lit by a flashlight, which makes the gray cellulose look lighter than it is.

Attic insulation replacement: the old pink batts out and fresh cellulose blown across the attic floor.
When old batts are flattened, uneven or dirty, the usual fix is to take them out rather than cover them. We haul the old layer away, and it is listed as its own line on the written quote. Then cellulose is blown straight onto the attic floor in an even layer, to the depth that gives the chosen R-value.

Finished job in Fremont
Rodent proofing with the outside openings sealed, the attic and crawl space cleaned, old insulation out, new batts in, and new ducts.
When rodents have been in a home, the work often does not stop at the entry points. The attic and crawl space need cleaning, soiled insulation needs replacing, and damaged ducts may need to go. Doing it together means one inspection, one written quote and one clean result.

Finished job in Santa Clara
Rodent proofing and the outside openings sealed, the attic and crawl space cleaned, and the old insulation replaced with new batts.
Sealing the ways in stops new rodents coming in. Cleaning the attic and crawl space removes what the old ones left, and new batts replace the insulation that was damaged. All of it can sit on one written quote.

Finished job in Cupertino
Rodent proofing with the roof and outside openings sealed, traps set, the crawl space and garage sanitized, and a vapor barrier laid over the soil under the house.
A vapor barrier belongs on clean ground, so on a job like this the crawl space is cleaned and sanitized first and the openings are sealed, and then the barrier goes down over the soil.

Finished job in Danville
Rodent proofing with the outside openings and garage sealed, the crawl space cleaned, and new ducts.
Sealing the outside openings and the garage closes the ways in. Cleaning the crawl space removes what rodents left under the house. New ducts go in as a whole system of flexible insulated ducts, and the old ducts are hauled away. Doing it in one visit means one inspection and one written quote.
After three other companies failed to stop the rats from getting into our basement, these guys finally did it. They found a tiny gap behind the HVAC unit that everyone else had missed.
They sealed everything up, including mesh screwed into areas in the beams where they could get into the attic. They also discovered our furnace was slowly leaking water into the crawl space, which was creating mold!
Atticali has been highly professional, punctual, and responsive. … Entire process right from first visit, estimate, payment, and service was seamless.
