How it works with your insulation.
A radiant barrier and attic insulation do different jobs, so they work best together.
- Foil under the roof. The radiant barrier faces the hot roof deck and turns back heat before it reaches the attic floor.
- Insulation on the floor. The insulation on the attic floor slows the heat that still gets through.
- Best time: when you re-insulate. While the attic is already being worked on, the barrier goes in during the same visit.
- Attics that get very hot in summer. If the attic feels like a sauna on summer afternoons, ask about it at the free inspection.
Questions, answered.
Where does a radiant barrier go?
Under the roof, along the rafters inside the attic. It faces the hot roof deck and turns back heat before it reaches the attic floor.
Is it instead of insulation?
No, it works with insulation. Many homeowners add it while we are already doing cellulose or batts.
How is it priced?
We price it after the free inspection, and you get a written quote the same day as the free inspection. Adding it to another service counts as multiple services: 10% off (one discount per job).
How long does it take to install a radiant barrier?
It is a one-day job.
What insulation goes with it?
Any R-value you ask for, and we recommend one at the free inspection. The most common in attics is R-38.
Is it installed from inside the attic?
Yes. The radiant barrier goes in from inside the attic.
How do you protect my home on job day?
The crew covers the path from your front door to the work areas with drop cloths or plastic sheeting: the floors, and some walls where needed. Old material and debris go out with us.
How soon do I get the quote?
Usually within 30–60 minutes of the free inspection, and the same day at the latest. The written quote lists every item, so you can compare it line by line.
Do I need to be home on the job day?
Yes, please be home. It also helps to clear the path to the work areas of breakable items, like pictures and vases.
Often booked together.
One free inspection covers everything. Two or more services: 10% off (one discount per job).
