Booked more in Milpitas
Based on our finished jobs in Milpitas, new insulation is booked more often here than in the rest of the Bay Area, usually after an attic cleanout. We install every type of insulation; our most popular is blown-in cellulose.
Which insulation
- Cellulose: blown straight onto the attic floor, made from recycled material. See cellulose insulation.
- Batts: Owens Corning and Knauf, ROCKWOOL when you ask. Kraft-faced or unfaced is your choice; batts added over existing attic insulation must be unfaced. See batt insulation.
- Blown-in fiberglass is an option too.

How much insulation
We install the R-value that fits your home, based on what you ask for and what we recommend at the inspection. R-38 is usual for attics. ENERGY STAR’s guide to adding insulation points to R-38 when an attic has about 3–4 inches, and R-49 when it has none. More in how much attic insulation you need.
Replace or add on top
Insulation that is soiled, tunneled, wet or flattened comes out first, hauled away by us and listed as its own line on your quote. Clean, dry insulation can sometimes stay and get new insulation on top. If rodents have been in the attic, it is cleaned and sanitized and the entry openings are sealed before the new insulation goes in. See attic cleaning in Milpitas.
Ducts in the attic
If the ducts are torn or chewed, they can be replaced in the same visit. We replace whole duct systems with new flexible insulated ducts; in Milpitas, where the energy code requires it, the new ducts are R-8. See air duct replacement.
Insulation, cleanup, sealing and ducts can share one quote. The free inspection in Milpitas covers the attic, the crawl space, the garage and the openings outside, and the written quote is usually ready 30–60 minutes after the inspection, the same day at the latest. Booking two or more services takes 10% off; jobs over $2,000 take $300 off (one discount per job).
Job day
Please be home, and clear the path to the work areas of breakable items, like pictures and vases. The crew covers the path from your front door to the work areas with drop cloths or plastic sheeting, and our crew sends you before and after photos.
